tech essay

How have the technologies introduced in recent years had an impact on the film industry?
Technologies are very important when it comes to the film industry especially in recent years as it is vital for the three main stages, production, distribution and exhibition to expand.
As part of production, recent technologies have changed the ways in which movies have been filmed as now you can do this in many different ways such as, digital cameras, IMAX cameras, 3D Cameras and CGI. For the film I have studied (The Dark Knight Rises) I have found that IMAX cameras are the most important contributor as a massive 72 minutes of the film was filmed with these cameras which is a large step from the previous franchise to The Dark Knight, which only had 30 minutes of IMAX. By using these cameras they are highly expensive to film on as they are twice the size of a normal film, but seeing as they are Hollywood they are able to do this with the maximum amount of quality and resolution.  They didn’t use digital cameras at all but stuck to the traditional film, as the director was Christopher Nolan, criticizes it and believes the new format to be inferior. Other directors such as Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino also agree with this traditional method of filming. However with an independent film, you would find them using digital cameras as they are easy to access, low cost, and easier to film on despite the lower quality it is the best available option for them. As the first digital film was Star Wars two, it shows even Hollywood can use this kind of camera but it is normally found with low budget films. These are your everyday cameras in which you may own yourself which is typical of independent films to use however this will impact on a smaller audience as the genre of the film would not have a lot of detailed or special effects.

The way we distribute films are also more advanced and different as to how we would  have a couple of years back as technology has advanced widely, things like internet marketing, mobile apps, competitions, video cameras and also now digital distribution. As marketing on the internet would be very useful with independent as there is no added cost in the promotion charge with my film that I have studied, Broken took advantage of this and set up many social networking sites such as facebook, twitter, youtube to promote their film with trailers, posters linking onto these sites. This is helpful because it is easy to access, and targets their audience as they would be prone to be using the inherent daily and happen to stumble upon this film maybe even my chance. With Hollywood films you would expect them to go all out on using new technology to distribute their film. With The Dark Knight Rises they linked their film with a game version, which then also went into a Lego version, tying in synergy with other companies to benefit both for a profitable income. There was also a mobile app which was free of charge and masses of internet marketing for their film as it was a successful way of targeting their audience by using new digital devices which they are more prone to use. Further distributing the dark knight rises, they set up a series of competitions all over the inerter involving different things, one of which was when they teamed up with Empire magazine to win a custom made bat man Xbox and consoles.  There were masses of internet marketing involved as pop ups, the dark knight rises web site, advertisement on other websites as well help contributed significantly to the success of the film as it was just as important as the production, even more.
The last part which is key to the film industry is the exhibition of it all, as now technologies has advanced so we can see our films In IMAX,  as two are situated in London and only 26 in the whole of the UK, Multiple platforms have now been introduced and 70% of cinemas in the UK use this widely. And even digital cinemas. But the big problem is internet streaming as this reduces cinema views and a massive loss in the film industry.
Hollyowood films tend to be shown in the big screens and most public way possible, they will show them now in different settings such as multiplatform as they have become popular with every year. However there are problems as many old fashioned directors like to make their film on film which then has to be converted to digital to be shown in digital cinemas, which cost the cinema money to do so, as this benefits one it increases a loss in another. We have advanced so much now that we can see films on so many different platforms as it keeps advancing into new ways which are more accessible. The cinema ratings are slowly decreasing as internet streaming on sites such as net flicks, love film are growing on a higher demand as people want films now, online, and be able to download it faster.  However sites which are illegal such as the 1chanel and let met watch this are now increasing as they are free, and update the fims as soon as they are released in the cinemas, for teenagers you would find them using these websites more because of the cost and the wait is sooner.
As independent films will find this idea as a good thing. Because not many people would have heard of their film, they may put them up straight on these sites without even going through the whole cinema process; you would hardly find low budget films being shown in a vue, or IMAX, but mostly on the internet or straight to the leading TV channel. They do not have the money to pay cinemas to put their films up, so it would go straight to DVD, which is much quicker and easy to access. The dark knight rises took 8-12 weeks before it was put on DVD or online, while Broken went straight to DVD and published online including the illegal free sights.  This can have an impact mostly on the cinema business as less people are going but boosting the new technologies’ of online viewing.

example

Discuss how products are produced and distributed in an industry that you have studied.
The film industry, like any financially driven business sector, operates with both large conglomerates and smaller independent companies and thus, with reference to the question, the way that films are produced and distributed depends largely on the companies’ resources (both financial and physical) and influence to make films and get them to market.
In order to highlight this dichotomy of production practices I will reference the Warner Bros. sequel in the recent Batman franchise, The Dark Knight rises (2012) and BBC’s critical success, Broken (2013).
Warner Bros are one of the 6 ‘majors’ of Hollywood and has enjoyed an enviable history of success in the film industry with a continued commitment to producing films of the highest production values, indeed Warner Bros have been responsible for 8 of the top 20 highest grossing movies in UK cinemas, have produced numerous highly successful franchises including Batman, Harry Potter and The Hobbit and in recent years they have signed a deal to release up to 20 feature films in IMAX set to finish with the second part of The Hobbit in late 2013.
Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ embodies this spirit of spectacular, high concept film making. The Dark Knight Rises features six sequences (a total of 30 minutes) shot using IMAX and, according to the film's press notes, this was the "first time ever that a major feature film has been even partially shot using IMAX cameras’ Whilst this practice provides the audiences with an unparalleled immersive experience, the use of IMAX technology remains exclusive to the financially secure Hollywood companies.
As mentioned in creating The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros have extended another famous franchise – a practice typical of Hollywood output. 16 of the highest grossing films in UK cinemas are franchises; these films create a sense of familiarity amongst audiences and are typically considered a safe bet for financial recuperation, particularly for companies who regularly spend in excess of $200m to produce their films.  Some might criticize how this creates an endless cycle of unoriginal films; others might suggest that this is simply what the audiences crave.
Part of the success of these Hollywood blockbusters are down to their high above (and below the line) costs, the influence of star appeal and the inclusion of state of the art special effects. The Dark Knight Rises was estimated to have cost $200m and this investment can be seen throughout the movie from high risk stunts to a large supporting cast and varied filming locations (notably California, motor way, Texas). The inclusion of A-List cast members including Ann Hathaway, Christian Bale and Tom Hardy, Morgan Freeman, ensures audiences will flock to see the film and the pedigree of the director himself (Christopher Nolan) will no doubt be a draw for fans of his previous films (Batman Begins, Momento, The Dark Knight).  The high fees commanded by Hollywood actors have always been a hotly contested topic yet for a film producer, the cost of hiring highly paid actors may be crucial to ensuring a profitable return.  The special effects seen in Dark Knight are the result of a highly accomplished team and range from high risk stunts such as zip-wiring across the city, to green screen generated free-falls (use for the football match), yet these do not come cheap. Typically the visual effects / post production budget on a blockbuster movie will be higher that of the filming costs itself, yet they have become a crucial expectation of audiences looking for pure spectacle from their cinema experience.
For a Hollywood film to be financially successful the costs do not end with the production alone, the film must be ruthlessly marketed to ensure audiences are aware of the film’s release. The Dark Knight Rises was no exception in its high profile campaign. As well as utilizing traditional forms of marketing such as the theatrical and teaser trailer and a range of film posters, The Dark Knight Rises included examples of synergy in its partnership with Mattel to launch toys, games, a Dark Knight themed UNO as well as a $7.5m roller coaster in the USA, Monster drink and FILM magazine. Furthermore the film utilized a series of viral campaigns on social media and websites encouraging audiences to interact by taking place in mass scavenger hunts and through creating a fictional political campaign by the character of Harvey Dent.
Overall it would appear that these production and distribution practices were a great success; in the UK along its box office takings were$1,081,041,287, making it the 21th most successful film in UK cinemas. In order to achieve this success the film delivered to the audience exactly what they would expect from this high-concept method of film-making from eye-watering above/below the line costs, familiar franchises, high production values and a high-profile, immersive marketing campaign.

BBC’s Broken offers a refreshing counter-study to the well trodden process of Hollywood.  BBC is a platform within the British broadcaster the responsibility of which is to commission and develop British feature films such as Ballet Shoes, Up There, The Invisible Woman and Blood. These films often have a distinctly British feel and may initially appeal to a more niche audience than their Hollywood counterparts.

Rufus Norris’s Broken was made for a fraction of the cost of The Dark Knight Rises (just £2000) however they have not released the actual price yet. And every attempt has been made to keep these costs down. The principal filming took place in England using lightweight digital cameras to navigate the streets and unlike The Dark Knight Rises, it was not necessary to close entire streets to film. The fact that it was shot on digital film also reduces the cost of film processing. The cast was largely unknown to cinema goers in the UK, as they were just extras in movies. The starts casted were slightly known as they in fact started as extras in marvel movies them self but not as known. The idea of broken came from previous events which has happened and would be found as something you could relate to as being in the British society. The film first got released in Poland and then in the UK late march 2013 which has 6 wins in the best British independent film awards and 11 nominations.
From this great success it got a large notice in the film industry but not as large for a giant distribution campaign, it was mainly the word of mouth which made this film as known as it is right now. What Warner Brothers and BBC did with their respective films typifies the differing approaches to film production and distribution. Hollywood has the finances to produce films of great spectacle and visual excitement with stars we know and admire, and whilst these form the majority of films we access in the cinemas, the independents are on hand to offer a refreshingly alternative approach when we crave a film with a degree of originality.

MERLIN

Building upon all of the information you have acquired regarding Merlin and how to appropriately construct your textual analysis essay
The clip of Merlin portrays a clear binary opposite as theorist Levi Strauss stated of the class throughout many different ways. The use of camera angles, mise-en-scene, sound, and editing have been conflicting in showing this throughout the clip.
The character Merlin has been presented in a lower class towards the surrounding characters as we are first introduced to him through low key lighting coming out of a small room. We are unsure why he would be in such a grand, historic castle from the way he is dressed which is dark, ragged, scuffling looking colours and ropes which portrays him as a servant boy, we see this again as he wonders around the room snooping, which has characteristics of a noisy, lower class boy. We know that he is not meant to be snooping in the room as the music picks up to a high paces, anxiety telling us something bad is going to happen. As we expected Merlin gets told off for being in the room as the lady is of a high authorities wearing royal purple dress telling Merlin “You shouldn’t be here.” and as he leaves he walks down the castles stairs where an establishing high angle shot of him is shown to make him look weak and lost in such a large place.
Setting has also played a contrasting role as the camera follows Merlin from behind to the little village as we are automatically on his side, and feel safe through the hectic clatter, chattering, cheerful and animal noise of the market place.  This is where we are introduce to the opposing character of Arthur who represents a much higher class and well respected status as already a mid-shot is used to show us that he is surrounded by an army of knights, also he is dressed heavily in armour, looking powerful and strong. We can also tell that he is of a higher, more snobbish class as the camera uses an a shallow focus on Arthur, which then turns into an over the shoulder shot; highlighting that the higher class is always picking on the lower and starting arguments. Here is where there is no clear difference in class as Merlin challenges this stereotype.
The use of dialogue is important as it gives us an idea to their personality and how each are portrayed. As Arthur has already started to pick out Merlin, he at first seems to be in power as whatever he says; his knights will laugh along with reinforcing the power, whereas merlin stands alone. This is show through a series of shot reverse shot between the conversations of the two opposing characters. Instead of obeying Arthur and letting him say what he wants, as he is arrogant, Merlin actually steps in with a response which is seen to be sarcastic and brave. “I knew you were an arse but I didn’t know you were a royal one to.” Cleverly Merlin is using his humour to mock the higher class, as he then continues to do so, making them look bad rather than him. “I’m sorry, how long have you been training to be a prat, your royal highness.” We now begin to take even more liking to Merlin as he is breaking away from the conventions of what a lower class servant should be like, and actually comes across as a brave and confident character through the use of dialogue as we would not expect this just from his appearance.  Apposing to this we are expected to find props with a British heritage of the medieval era as the mise-en-scene gives us clues about the situation of society then.
The non-diegetic music of a typically medieval tune, that is heavily based with violins and fast tempos starts to play as Arthur passes scrawny looking merlin with a morning star weapon, a series of low angle shots on merlin and high angle shot son Arthur alternate to show that Arthur now has the power because of his equipment.  We see the struggle for Merlin being a servant and not familiar with this peculiar weapon and scuffles to use it. To match Merlin’s emotions a sequence of fast, short cuts are used where the camera juggles slightly to show the panic state of Merlin’s mind, we are looking at this scene from his point, wanting him to win because of this.  The setting changes slightly as they were taken from a high key lighting of the natural sunlight of the market place, (where merlin fought to fight) to a low key lightening place of a barn which contrast with his ability as he can now use his special magical gift to help him. By doing this it puts a twist onto what we would usually expect however shows that there is more to merlin than meets the eye, which is what Arthur picks up on later. At this point we see more extreme and close up as the camera uses a matched action shot from the extreme of merlin’s eye, to the object he is moving, matched with Arthur tumbling into it and falling over. It shows that even with a lower class of Merlin’s sort, he can use his speciality to actually stand up for himself and allows him to prove he is worthy even of a higher class knight.
However modesty gets the better of him as just as we think Merlin has won, Arthur returns from below, and in sync with the drum based music the tension builds up in time with Arthur hitting merlin to the ground with a broom , then mocking his class by sweeping him away, with a servants tool. The music now stops all together and we are taken to an establishing shot of a dark room where the old man Gaius, is telling Merlin off in a strong tone, which is typical for a servants to be shouted at. The setup of the mise-en-scene shows the dark gloomy and small place, in which is a clear division to what the richer people would be used to. A set of extreme close ups are used focusing on Merlin’s face to show his true emotions and how he actually feels, we begin to see his voice break as he is shown to be weak and has a low self-esteem about himself.
There is a clear division between the way in which class and status is presented in this clip through the use of binary opposites, however they have changed certain characteristics around to differ from the solid stereotypes, however the poorer never win in the end.

primeval

In the clip of primeval, we are represented with two opposing groups of characters which contrast with each other as binary opposites according to Levi Strauss. Instead of using actors who are obviously one gender, they have chosen to use a combination of the two to portray a more masculine, dominate figure, as the same with a more feminine, soft personality. By using a female to represent a dominate, authoritative figure, it goes against the stereotypical conventions, however they have still l followed them as they have tried to make her look as manly as possible with the use of costume . She has short, sharp, white, slick, presteme hair which is very unusual for a women to have, she is also tall built and wearing dark colour clothing which are lose which then connotations, power, in demand, strict and mysterious. This helps to show that she may be a female however by giving her these manly appearances she appears very butch. This also shows in her character, as the second shot we see of her is a mid-shot in a digger, which would be seen as a man’s job, doing the hard work, the camera takes a quick close up towards her face so we can establish her facial features are sharp and macular. Her opposing character, a male who is dumped down to appear helpless, tries to act more of a hero and upstage her in the role to be more manly, as when the sabre-toothed enters the forest, the butch girl has to save him, showing that she is more manly, even though she is actually a girl. There are high angle shots of the boy in the ditch to show his vulnerability of being attacked by the lion. The music is also key now, as a mincing, drum, hard-hitting beat comes about when we see the girl in power. The other man, who looks more boys like, tries again to redeem himself but fails, as the butch girl once again saves him from being killed. We see this as fast cuts take us to the butch girl when defeating the sabre-toothed, and slow, long shots when the sabre-toothed is tracking down the boy. Later then a close up is also added to the boy’s face, matched with a match action shot of him looking back at the butch girl to show his relief, and also thankful that she had come to the rescue. This is abnormal as you would normally see a female showing their emotions through such a close shot, however we only get the butch girl in mid shots, but the boy in a few close ups, allowing us to see his emotions. The camera then does a lot of establishing shots of the remaining forest to show where they are, which a very urban and deserted place is. In the first ever shot we see is a medium close up of the main authoritative man talking to a women, we can tell he is in power as his face remains in most of the matched action shots between their conversation and also because of his strong stern voice, orders the lady to leave. He is standing up, while the rest of his crew sits down, waiting for his orders. The clothing they have given him also tells us, as a smart shirt with the buttons undone at the stop and his strong walk shows power. This is then shown as the camera tracks towards him directly, then outwards as we see the other characters walking slightly behind him as he is in the middle leading. Compared to them, he looks more in power as one is wearing fashionable clothing, a hat and pink shirt, while the other is old and wearing a suit. All the characters seem to then emerges and meet in a circle as the camera slowly moves around, showing each one separately then focusing on a mid-shot as each one speaks. The constant sound of birds chirping ads to the setting of them being in a open country area which is large as it echoes all around, and by using the natural lighting which comes from the sun, also makes it very realistic as to where they are. This is an unbiased area to show gender. Following the binary opposite characters, they have used an opposing male, who is seen as heterosexual and feminine. He is dressed in a pink shirt, well groomed soft features, stylish hat and scarf and waste coat, which goes against the stereotypes of being a man. When the well suited man begins to talk, the music changes with him to suit his appearance, as a serious line, of dramatic music is played non diegetic, as he is about to discuss a serious issue, showing a stereotypical trait of males. As the leading male takes orders, but the feminine one waits until he is told what to do, obey commands which are a feminine trait. The barn scene is very low key lighted to enhance that element of danger and shadowing to the audience so they are aware that something may happen. An eye lined shot is used between the well-dressed feminine looking women and the scruffy, greasy old man to show their conversation. In this scene we are told that she has all the power as her voice is strong, hair and make-up heavily done up and giving the man orders. Her facial expressions also tell us this as they seem to be sarcastic in the way she talks to the man about the problem. However it is deceiving as she seems to be wearing something black, and low cut which is covered by a while, fancy coat, we cannot tell at this moment because the shots only allow us to see are mid, but this does tell us a mixed feeling about good and evil in here, by trying to hide it with the white coat. It is not until the man then pulls out a weapon of a gun, which supports his power is she then taken down to be less dominate and authorive towards him. The only reason why he is dominate is because he has a weapon and could not be aggressive without it, to highlight the danger a deeply based violin, screeching pitch of music comes in to show the problematic situation. As being a women who does talk a lot, she trys to get out of this situation, moving the power to her by making up excesses, “You’re not a violent man” which she knows is a lie as he is breading fighting dogs, however it is a trick women use to get their way, in this case it didn’t work. It is now we see the balance of power change between the two genders as he has full control and physically pushes her to the ground where she is now exposed and we see a long shot of her black dress and her expression vulnerable, almost like a damsel waiting to be saved. The camera moves in a slower shot as it amplifies the music and barking of the dogs to highlight the danger once again, it is not until a cut to the other characters all holding guns towards the man is it when we are relived that everything is ok. He again is standing in the middle at the front dominating the group as he is a strong male figure, the second more dominate character Is the butch girl as she then asks if the well-dressed one is ok, and gives a direct question to the man who has lost his power now. The least dominate is the feminine male who picks up a shovel instead of a gun, showing him that he is weak and has no manly weapons to hide behind. The clip portrays characteristic of strong, dominate, authorive, powerful characters with the use of stereotypically traits to be the leaders as they use weak, vulnerable, soft, feminine traits to show a how girls would be compared to males, it is very conventional that we see this as it is what we expect and follows the codes and conventions to gender.

Distribution

Distribution
The dark knight rises is a film which specialises in the genre of action and thriller, it also has other genres related around it such as crime fiction, comic book and drama. This is stereotypical for a Hollywood film as they tend to involve a lot of action and fast moving scenes where they can spend a lot of money on. The dark knight rises was released on the 20th of July 2012. Looking at the same time period, I have found that seven other films had also been released that very same day; however all of these were only shown in key cities and not saturated as the dark knight rises. Only one was distributed by 20th fox century and the rest were unknown, low budget productions which did not try and competed with the films genre or audience as they all varied away from action. The reason why it is such a hit is because of the high list actors who are involved which will attract their fan base also. Because it is already part of a franchise and there has been past bat man films, it is predicated that it will make more money than the last.
The target audience it would appeal to a wide audience of marvel lovers, and anyone who reads the previous comics or has seen the films. Espislly directed towards guys as geeks would also be stereotypically linked to batman. However because of the rating of a 12A that the BBFC have given it also opens this film up to younger fans that are below the age of 12 and can watch it with an adult. This seems appropriate because it is a “moderate violence" according to them. The equivalent is a PG13 in America. The dark knight rises was show in IMAX, 2D subtitles/captions for people with hearing loss, Audio Description for people with sight loss, digital 2D and 35mm. It was also shown in many cinemas, such as ODEON, IMAX and wide release. IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that The Dark Knight Rises has passed the $100 million global box office mark in 557 IMAX theatres worldwide after its 7th week of release. As of Sept. 3, 2012, the film reached a total of $65.1 million from 332 IMAX screens domestically and $37.3 million from 225 IMAX screens internationally. These figures include box office receipts from China, which began playing the film on Aug. 27 in 75 IMAX theatres.
There were releases of various posters of characters who are main in the movie as a teaser campaign. It allowed the audience to have an idea is in the film and what character they are playing.  Only using a long shot of each character dressed in their famous clothing which related to bat man, they created a few dozen posters which were very dark and gloomy looking. Wired and Empire then “leaked” mysterious CIA documents about a missing Russian nuclear scientist named Dr. Leonid Pavel (believed to be actor Alon Aboutboul). These documents will explode many rumours in respects to The Dark Knight Rises storyline, as well as how this missing nuclear scientist is related to Bane’s schemes. On the release date there was also an official website with a new IMAX poster and extensive production notes that fill in some of the story details.
For the trailer, MTV got some lucky Batman fans to check out the brand-new trailer for over the weekend, which then resulted to Apple having the first theatrical trailer for the entire world to see. In the first part of the trailer they have tried to replicate in a way a scene from the dark knight, which vaguely shows batman, but we are aware of his presence due to his Bruce’s voice. Cleverly using scenes which will trick the audience into information they do not yet know has been used through the making of the trailer as they use fast acting cuts, from a speech from Harvey to bat man fighting. The audience are shocked to see Bruce walking with a stick as he appears to be old, which we are confused about because in the next cut we see Bruce and Selina dancing, and a close up of her whispering into his ear which gives us mixed signals as to what is happening. It is now where we are introduced to the special effects and fast moving cuts of the battle and the batbmoible in action. They have promoted the main starts and their scenes in the trailer focusing on the main problem of Bain trying to destroy Bat man, with full use off special effects and action.
Using new media would be a very important factor to consider when promoting the film, as they are a giant Hollywood blockbuster, they have gone all out to make this work by setting up a website with various links to twitter, youtube, facebook pages also giving them interactions with fellow bat man lovers by becoming a member of the website and getting news letters sent via email, which they can then explores the online games as well as the PSP  controller and other objects which have been bat man customised especially for this film. There is also a free app which you could download on your iPhone which is very handy for teenagers and a younger audience. They have also teamed up with a very large brand of energy drink “Mountain Dew” which they know teenagers of their target audience purchase, for a competition. By doing this they have created a social awareness of publicly promoting the film so everyone is aware. Also using the famous Empire magazine, in association to win two cinema tickets, but also giving out secondary prices like batman merch, USB, t shirts, DVD players and other goodies.  ‘The studio and Chrysler are holding a contest where users can take assets from the website “Imported from Gotham City”, and re-edit them into a new 25-second TV spot, and the winner will receive a trip to NYC to attend the red carpet premiere.  Christopher Nolan will choose the winner, although there’s no guarantee that the spot will actually air on television.  Additionally, your TV spot must not only promote TDKR, but also “Chrysler brands”.  I assume the brands are cars that get destroyed as Batman tries to save Gotham City.’ Was another example of a competition.
A clever strategy of using a synergy to their advantage is showing the trailer of the dark knight rises right before the avenger’s movie. DC and Marvel are the biggest comic corporations on the cinema scene. Because of this relationship they have also played the dark knight before iron man, and also the inception before iron man 2. Also by using social media there has been a standing ovation for the film before it was released as twitter also got involved and #TDKR was trending. There has also been a TV pot has been released by Warner Bros., showing some never-before seen footage and some humour. Here are the slots they appeared on.

the dark knight rises

The dark knight rises has a specialised franchise in which has been made into sequals of many other batman films. It begain with batman reutrns, then the dark knight and now the dark knight rises. This is typical of an american production as it feeds of other exsisting ideas which come from the marvel movies. The producers must have spent a lot of money in buying the rights to the films plot and idea as it was not an orginal one, this is used a lot in american films as they have the money to splash about. Because they also know that marvel films have been a hit before, they are sure to garuentee a profit bale return form their audience. christian nolan had also directed the previous batman films, which means that there is a safey net for their audience to almost garuenteee to watch the latest film. Because hardcore batman fans would have seen the first two, they would also want to see the last one because of its sequal and follow the story. The first movie batman begins spent a less $150 million on it and in return got $374,218,673. the dark knight then rised up to $185 million and had a return with $1,004,558,444. And the latest one the dark knight rises cost $250–300 million and had a return of $1,081,041,287. we can see a trend as each movie has been made, more money has been spent and also the return has increased. This insures that this movie would be successful and attract a wide audience. MUSIC: Music in the dark knight rises also help contribute to the success of the film as a world famous composer Hans Zimmer had been confirmed that he would be retuning to do the music for this film. This is because James Newton Howard originally did it for Bat man begins and The dark knight, however turned this down as he thought Zimmer would be better suited. Zimmer said he wanted to go into a completely different direction for Bane's theme tune. Zimmer choice voices in a most interesting way as he wanted thousands and hundred of them so he tweeted, asking people who wanted to be a part of it, where the fans could also be involved and part of the music creation. Costume: This is part of the low paid section. the costume designer was Lindy Hemming. The hardest part was to make the Batsuit, which consisted of 110 separate pieces, each of which had to be replicated dozens of times over the course of the production. One of the main things which made batman movies so compelling is their tone of plausibility. The final version of the Bat takes its design cues from the Harrier Jump Jet, Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey and the Boeing AH-64 Apache. The Bat's shape and size was a major challenge to film as the practical effects over computer-generated imagery. To actually make it fly, it had to be supported by wires, which were suspended from cranes and helicopters. When designing the batcave set, they found the idea of flooding it and having Batman's equipment rise from the water. Another set was designed for this as an underground prison, a rough-hewn labyrinthine of stone cells that was 120 foot. The prison had to be filmed in Jodhpur, India, chosen because the "forbidding landscape added to the desolation".
